Gold v Silver

Week 2 Friday Story – 31 May 2024

I realised this morning, I’m both a gold-and-silver type of girl.  Not the silver-platted kind, the ‘wearing of’ kind.  My right wrist encircled by an engraved solid gold bangle and on my left hangs a silver chain-linked bracelet.  My ears adorned by hooped earrings of gold.  Once upon a time, I wore silver but alas one was lost and, perhaps I am not a wear-two-different-earrings type of gal.  Or am I?

When I was little, I wore a gold bangle, it circled my small wrist and was a cherished possession, a traditional gift to a new born child.  As I grew the bangle seemed to shrink and eventually it was sawn off amidst my anxious worries (and probably tears) that my hand may go too.

It was replaced by a bigger one that became oval shaped and dinted with wear and felt as if part of my body.  Where did it go?

The one I wear now, whilst not the one of my youth, does remind me of family, days gone by and the generosity of friends.

I’m not really a ‘jewellery’ snob.  I wear the same few cherished items, day in day out.  Special occasions may call for a change or if I’m in a quirky colourful dress kind of mood, there may be dangling earrings, chakra stones and my neck adorned with the tree of life necklace or my green stone that hangs low on black cord.  Both treasured gifts that remind me of the love and friendship I have been blessed with.

Today, is a plain office-work-clothes wearing day.  The gold hoops, the tree of life, both wrists adorned and two plain gold rings on my right hand that remind me of a past I am fortunate to have.

May your day be as blessed as I feel.
